Information on the Contract for Excellence
10/06/08 - Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Fine Arts and Essay Display (Flyer: PDF | HTML)
- New York State schools are invited to submit student artwork
based on Dr. King's Six Principles of Nonviolence and essays on celebrating
his birthday throughout the year. The categories are writing, painting,
drawing, sculpting and photography. All entries must be postmarked by
December 5, 2008 and will be placed on display for viewing one week prior
to the King Holiday January 19, 2009 in Albany, New York.
10/02/08 - Contracts for Excellence - State Education Commissioner Richard Mills announced today the approval of Contracts for Excellence between the Department and 26 school districts throughout the State.The Department continues to work with the remaining 13 districts to finalize their Contracts.

Schools Named as "Persistently Dangerous” Under NCLB - State
Education Commissioner Richard Mills announced that 19 schools
have been identified as “persistently dangerous” under the
federal No Child Left Behind Act. Last year 27 schools were identified.
Pursuant to federal requirements, the list of schools is being
announced so that parents can exercise their right of school
choice.
5/16/08 - Procedure to Update NYSED's List
of School Administrators - When there is a change in superintendent
or principal in any public school district, regular public school,
charter school, nonpublic school or BOCES, the NYSED's Office of
Information and Reporting Services (I&RS) must be formally notified
so that the SED Reference File (SEDREF) can be updated. Online
accounts will not be generated unless a person appears appropriately
on SEDREF. Please view the complete
instructions for updating the
file. NOTE: SEDREF updates are processed nightly. The earliest
a new account can be generated and accessed will be the day after
the update information has been received by SED.
